On April 1, 2009, Wu Zhen, Deputy Commissioner of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), and John Farnell, Director for Coordination, Planning and International Affairs of the Directorate-General Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission co-chaired the first annual high-level working conference under the Consultation and Cooperation Mechanism between the Directorate-General Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission and the State Food and Drug Administration of the People's Republic of China.

The conference announced the achievements of the drug workgroup and the medical device workgroup in the past one year since the Consultation and Cooperation Mechanism was signed; discussed establishment of cosmetic workgroup and planned the key works in the future. The representatives from DG Enterprise and Industry, European Medicines Agency(EMEA), AFSSAPS and EC Delegation to China, and directors of relevant departments of SFDA were present at the conference.
