On June 4, 2008, Wu Zhen, Deputy Commissioner of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), met with Roger Williams, Chief Executive Officer of the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) and two entourage. Wu Zhen expressed his welcome to the visiting guests. He highly appraised the outcome of the discussion between the delegation and the Pharmacopoeia Commission of China, the National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products and the Drug Certification Center of SFDA. Further discussion was made on the following aspects:
I. The Pharmacopoeia Commission of China and the United States Pharmacopeial Convention would establish a long-term and effective cooperative relationship with each other and build up a mechanism for exchange of visits, as to deepen and strengthen the interchange between the two sides. It was initially decided that the Third Sino-US Pharmacopeial Forum would be held in Tianjin at the beginning of November.
II. The National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products would enhance the cooperation with the United States Pharmacopeial Convention in a wider range and introduce new equipment and technology for drug control so as to improve the drug control ability of China.
III. Further interchange and cooperation should be carried out in the fields of drug standards and certification.
Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of SFDA, and responsible persons of relevant affiliated organizations of SFDA attended the discussion.
