SFDA to take further regulatory measures to ensure the quality and safety of drugs and medical devices for disaster relief

The State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) issued the Notice on Making Continuous Efforts to Strengthen the Supervision on Drugs and Medical Devices for Disaster Relief on May 23,2008. The Notice required that, while assisting the supply of drugs and medical devices for disaster relief, food and drug regulatory departments at all levels should further intensify the supervision and inspection on drug and medical device manufacturing or distributing enterprises; intensify the sampling and testing of drugs and medical devices for disaster relief; strengthen the supervision to the shelf life of drugs; and strengthen the supervision to the drug retailers in disaster-hit areas, prevent substandard drugs and medical devices from flowing into the disaster-hit areas.
