Commissioner Shao Mingli calls for tightened work on Olympic drug safety assurance and doping management at special videoconference

The State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) convened a videoconference on tightening work on Olympic drug safety assurance and doping management on February 28, 2008. SFDA Commissioner Shao Mingli made arrangements on relevant work and SFDA Deputy Commissioner Wu Zhen chaired the meeting.
Shao emphasized that food and drug regulatory departments at all levels should further unify their thinking, enhance their awareness, make clear of their tasks and implement the tasks vigorously, so as to handle well the work on Olympic drug safety assurance and doping management, and make their due contribution to the successful hosting of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The Commissioner noted that handling well doping management work and eliminating drug-induced doping management problem will be the pillar of the main tasks of Olympic drug safety assurance work. Food and drug regulatory departments at all levels, he said, should raise their awareness on the special importance of doping management work, and enhance their sense of responsibility and urgency on Olympic drug safety assurance work, in a bid to firmly carry out the tasks on doping management .
Shao required to further implement special rectification on the production and distribution of anabolic agents and peptide hormones, further standardize the production and distribution and increase the intensity of crackdown on any violations of relevant laws and regulations. He also urged special inspection on drug insert sheets and labels, noting that the requirements on marks of “Cautious Use for Athletes” on the insert sheets and labels of drugs containing doping substances should be fully implemented.
SFDA will convene on-the-spot meetings in the host city and co-host cities of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games during March and July this year, aiming to conduct inspections on the progress on doping management work and promote the in-depth implementation on anti-doping work in the host city and co-host cities of Beijing Olympic Games.
