Entrusted by Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice Premier Wu Yi, on behalf of the State Council, reported the drug safety and its supervision to the 16th Session of the Standing Committee of the Tenth National People's Congress on June 29, 2005. Wu Yi said that drug safety remains a serious challenge and there are many problems and hidden risks though China's overall drug production and distribution conditions are improving. The next step will involve the work in six key areas. The weakness of the drug safety will be dealt with first. The State Council will try to strengthen supervision capabilities and the supervision of drug production and selling to ensure that patients use safe and cheap drugs.

2. Continue the building of Two Networks in rural areas
3. Rectify and standardize drug advertisements
4. Try to reduce drug prices
5. Curb irrational drug use
6. Strengthen supervision capabilities
